Elevating Experiences
On why good is never quite good enough, and the restless pursuit of something more.

A candid reflection on a tough year and a clear plan for 2025: taking 53° out of beta, welcoming the first 100 customers, and proving real-world value—while prioritising founder wellbeing. Practical habits to prevent burnout, set boundaries, and build healthier, more resilient businesses.
As we start winding down the year, I’ve been spending a lot of time thinking about what comes next.
And if I’m honest — this year has been the toughest yet.
I know 2025 has been hard for so many people running experience businesses, venues, and startups like ours.
Family health scares.
Unexpected decisions.
Constant business pressure.
The mental load of being the one who has to figure it out.
And that underlying uncertainty that never really goes away.
It’s a quiet weight you carry — even when everything looks fine from the outside.
And yet, as founders and operators, we don’t really get the luxury of stopping.
So we do what we always do.
We pause.
We reset.
And then we get back up and keep going.

Our goals are clear:
Taking 53° out of beta
Welcoming our first 100 customers
Proving the platform works in the real world, not just on paper
Building something that genuinely removes friction from running an experience business
Those goals matter. A lot.
They’re exciting. They’re motivating. And they’re ambitious.
But they’re not the most important goal.
The most important goal is protecting the people behind the business.
Because I’ve learned the hard way that no platform, no roadmap, and no growth plan survives burnout.
When you’re exhausted:
Decision-making gets slower
Creativity dries up
Everything feels heavier than it should
And eventually, the thing you once loved starts to feel like a burden.
So as we build 53° next year, growth means more than numbers.
It also means building better personal systems to cope with the pressure that comes with entrepreneurship.
A few things that have genuinely helped — and might help you too:
Creating space to think, not just react
Putting hard boundaries around work that never “ends”
Writing things down to get them out of your head
Walking away from screens when clarity is needed most
Accepting that rest is part of progress, not the opposite of it
None of this is revolutionary.
But all of it is easy to forget when you’re in the middle of it.
If you’re reading this feeling worn down, stretched thin, or quietly questioning your own energy, you’re not alone.
And protecting yourself isn’t a weakness.
It’s leadership.
Here’s to a clearer head.
A stronger foundation.
And a healthier year ahead — for you, and for the businesses you’re building.
Here’s to the next chapter of 53°.

The deal is done. The ink is dry. The announcement is out. And now — the real work begins. Looking back to the day we took over the climbing centre, it was a genuine shock to the system. The excitement of the deal quickly gave way to the reality of running something new, with new people, new problems, and a whole new set of pressures. If I were doing it again, I'd do a lot of things differently.
